Reyvow or lasmiditan is the first and only drug in a brand-new class of migraine treatments called the “ditans”. Reyvow is for acute treatment of migraine with aura and migraine without aura.
People taking Reyvow experience impressive results: 2 hours after a single 200 mg dose 60% have relief of pain, 39% have complete elimination of migraine pain, and almost half of people have complete freedom from the other disabling symptoms of migraine (nausea, sensitivity to light / photophobia, sensitivity to sound / phonophobia).
Reyvow works by activating the 5HT1F serotonin receptor. Reyvow is not a triptan, it’s a ditan.
Side effects of Reyvow include dizziness, fatigue, tingling, sedation, nausea / vomiting and weakness.
Do not drive or do other things that need you to be alert for your own or others’ safety for at least 8 hours after taking Reyvow If you can’t follow this advice, do not take Reyvow.
Serotonin syndrome is a rare but potentially deadly condition caused when single medicines or a combination of medicines create dangerous levels of serotonin in your body. Drugs that may contribute to SS include SSRIs (Citalopram, Zoloft), SNRIs(duloxetine, venlafaxine), tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline) and MAO-B inhibitors (rasagiline / Azilect). Some of these are used for migraine prevention Talk to your pharmacist or doctor.
Reyvow may lower heart rate on its own by 5 – 10 BPM When combined with propranolol, a platform migraine prevention medicines, heart rates can fall about 20 beats per minute This could be a problem for some people.
If you have severe liver failure, Reyvow is not recommended.
Avoid taking Reyvow with “P-gp substrate” drugs like: Colchicine, Cyclosporin, Dabigatran, Digoxin, Diltiazem, Fexofenadine, Indinavir, Morphine, Sirolimus, and others.
Avoid taking Reyvow with “BCRP substrate” drugs like mitoxantrone, methotrexate, Imatinib, Prazosin, Glyburide, Statins, Cimetidine, and others.
Safety in pregnant or breastfeeding human moms and their babies is unknown. Animal studies show evidence of harm.
